Let us take a look at your options on choosing a piano.

Vertical

Vertical or upright pianos are the tallest available, and should you choose this type of instrument you can find one in your local paper quite readily and for a very reasonable price. This is because they are most often the older models a family has outgrown for some reason or other. Some have very intricate designs. Antique models are known for showmanship and have an earthy tone.

Console

The console piano is quite popular and will stand at a medium height. These are often seen in studios and can be found in any music store. The make and model will vary, but the sound will remain constant. I took my first beginner piano lessons on a console.

Spinet

The spinet is the smallest version and will have a higher pitch than a console. A spinet is also harder to acquire, but will take up less space. There will be no difference in weight though! Every piano is quite heavy. The one drawback to owning one of these instruments.

The Grand And Baby Grand

This instrument needs no introduction. It is considered to be the best sounding instrument and also the largest. Even a baby grand will take up considerable space in your home, as it can not sit up against a wall. If you can afford one, this is a luxurious way to take beginner piano lessons!

Electronic Pianos

These instruments became available around forty years ago and have been evolving ever since. They are by far the most popular, as they are portable, depending on the model you choose. The sound has not been compromised and they are often equipped with other capabilities as well, such as recording and other sound options including rhythm and percussion.

Electronic Keyboards

The best choice for on the go musicians, the keyboard is light weight and highly affordable. You will sacrifice sound quality with the cheapest models, but for the price it can’t be beat, and for beginner piano lessons is the most economical instrument.

Once you have chosen your instrument, decide which way you would like to learn. A private instructor will be the most expensive, or you have the option of taking online courses. There are websites that offer free lessons as well, and if you enjoy those you may purchase additional lessons at a reasonable price.

There are video tutorials available for beginner piano lessons you can pop into your DVD player and learn at your own pace.
