About Card Blanks for Card Making
When it comes to the art of card making there are many things that you can do to make things quicker and a little easier for you. One of those things in particular is the basic item that you require for making a greeting card and that is a card blank. Some people prefer to fold their own card blanks from a piece of A5 card whereas others would prefer to buy them folded and ready to decorate. In actual fact most companies nowadays will supply the card blanks open but creased; this will allow you to put the blank through an ink jet or laser printer, which can be handy for inserting verses into the cards.
Card blanks are normally supplied in either packs of five or ten, but it has in recent times become more popular to bulk buy your blanks in packs of fifty or even one hundred. Cards can be bought as plain blanks, aperture card blanks where the front panel of the card carries an aperture or opening which maybe in the shape of a circle or oval etc. and fancier designs which would include gate fold and many others.
If it is your intention to print the cards using a desktop printer, then be careful that the weight of card is not too heavy your printer, otherwise you find you are forever clearing paper jams from the printer. Your printer documentation will tell you what weight of card your printer will handle and your card supplier will tel you the weight in grams per square metre of the card blanks.
Finally, card blanks are available in different colours. You will find you have more choice of shape and size with white card blanks but there are many colours available, including ivory, pastel colours etc. as well as plain and textured cards.
